Nicholas Twomey, LSW
Therapist
Welcome, and thank you for taking a significant step towards personal growth and healing. For the past 15 years, I have been dedicated to guiding individuals towards rediscovering their inherent worth, improving their relationships, and embracing life’s complexities with resilience. Influenced by teachers like Viktor Frankl, Gabor Mate, and Ram Dass, I strive to offer a supportive environment for those facing life’s challenges.
My Counseling Approach:
There is a quote by Viktor Frankl that has stuck with me and underpins my therapeutic approach – “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.” Holding a degree in clinical social work from Rutgers University, my approach combines empathy, mindfulness, and evidence-based methods. I emphasize the importance of recognizing emotions, the therapeutic benefits of nature, and the practice of mindfulness. Whether through the exploration of family dynamics, the journey through addiction recovery, or the quest for personal identity, my approach is tailored to the unique story of each individual, offering a path to inner peace and self-awareness
I am deeply fascinated by the complexity of the human experience and the wisdom it reveals. From my work with families and adolescents to the empowering guidance for those entangled in addiction, my heart lies in being a part of a relationship that empowers individuals and facilitates transformation. Our modern world often overwhelms us, with all its comforts and conveniences, and often taxes us spiritually and physically. I am committed to helping individuals reclaim their connection to themselves, to others, and to the natural world, fostering a holistic sense of well-being. I am here to walk alongside you and together we will explore the space between stimulus and response, finding our growth, our freedom, and our deepest joy.
Life, for me, is an adventure—a journey of constant learning and connection. I am most alive when immersed in nature— be it trekking through the forests and mountains of the U.S. or exploring distant countries. Gardening, nutrition, reading, and exercise are not just hobbies; they are integral to my philosophy of living fully and mindfully. My family, my dog Colby, and the simple joys of life are the anchors that keep me grounded and remind me of the beauty in the everyday.
